The Sacred Space Within

There is so much noise in our world today. Noise from the news, social media, politics, responsibilities, and the endless demands of everyday life. Sometimes it feels as though the world is spinning faster than our souls can keep up.

And yet, beneath all that noise, there is something extraordinary waiting for us.

Stillness.

Not the absence of sound, but the presence of something greater. A sacred space where we can release the weight of the world, quiet our thoughts, and remember that God is not somewhere out there waiting to be found. God is right here, within us, patiently waiting for us to become still enough to notice.

Recently, I created a special space in my home that has become one of the most meaningful places in my life.

It was my mother's sunroom.

For years, this was her little sanctuary. She would sit there with her cigarettes, a glass of wine, and her television, looking out through the windows at the lake. It was her space, her retreat from the world, a place where she could simply be herself.

After her passing, I decided to transform that room into something new. Today, it is my prayer room.

Surrounded on three sides by windows overlooking the lake, it holds my prayer altar, a comfortable chair, my Daily Word, beautiful plants, and special rocks I've collected along my spiritual journey. Nothing extravagant. Just simple things that remind me of what is sacred.

And something wonderful has happened. That room has changed my relationship with prayer.

Every day, it calls me back to myself. It reminds me to stop doing and simply start being. To breathe. To listen. To release whatever I've been carrying and rest in the awareness of Divine Presence.

Sometimes I pray. Sometimes I meditate. Sometimes I simply sit and look at the water. And sometimes I do absolutely nothing.

And perhaps that is when the greatest prayer happens.

Because prayer isn't about asking God for something. Prayer is simply remembering that we are already connected to everything we seek.

This weekend, I'll be gathering with a beautiful group of souls for In the Stillness: A Unity Prayer Retreat at the Sisters of Loretto in Kentucky.

Together, we'll explore what it means to step away from the chaos and reconnect with the sacred within. Through meditation, affirmative prayer, drumming, music, quiet reflection, walking the labyrinth, creating a sacred altar, and spending time in nature, we'll make room for something that our busy lives rarely allow.

Space to listen. Space to heal. Space to remember who we truly are.

We currently have thirteen people joining us, with room for just three more. If something within you feels drawn to this experience, perhaps that gentle stirring is worth listening to. It's not too late to join us October 30–31. We'd love to welcome you. Here's the link.

But whether you join us or not, I want to leave you with this invitation.

Create a little sacred space in your own life.

It doesn't have to be a beautiful room overlooking a lake. It might be a favorite chair, a quiet corner, your car before starting the day, or a few peaceful moments sitting beneath a tree.

Close your eyes. Take a breath. Release the noise. Allow yourself to be fully present.

You don't need special words. You don't need to have all the answers. You don't even need to know how to pray. Just become still.

Because the sacred isn't waiting for you somewhere else.

It has been waiting for you within, all along.

And perhaps the greatest gift we can give ourselves is simply the willingness to enter that sweet space and stay awhile.

Join us this Sunday at Unity of Louisville as we welcome Kim Belew, who will bless us with her wonderful message, "The Gift in Everything," along with her beautiful music. We look forward to sharing this special Sunday with you!

Blessings, Rev Dr Bobby Kyser
